Carbon Transfer Printing

Color

Color carbon prints are usually made with cyan, magenta, yellow and black pigments, but most prints also incorporate an iron oxide layer of pigment for greater subtly in skin tones and landscapes. Orange, green, red, or violet pigments can also be used to increase the gamut. All prints are made with tonal separations, which translates into using 8-14 negatives to make a print.

Black And White

Black and white carbon prints can come in just about any tone and texture. I can make a carbon print look like a platinum print, a selenium and gold toned ferrotyped silver print, a cyanotype, or I can adjust characteristic attributes of a carbon print, like relief, to achieve a desired result. The possibilities are endless.

Earth Pigments

Prints made from earth pigments like red and yellow ochre, green earth, and from precious stones such as lapiz lazuli are some of the most beautiful prints I make.

Workshops

WHO

Groups of four people. Since there is so much information to cover about advanced carbon practices, it is recommended that workshop attendees have some experience printing in carbon or have an extensive background in alternative processes.

WHAT

A 10 day workshop ending in you being able to make multilayer double transfer carbon prints, and understanding important concepts about that process that will allow you to create your own methods to suit your own needs.

WHERE

In the Wet Print Studio in beautiful Valencia, Spain.

WHEN

Right now all workshops are booked until 2023. Contact me to be placed on the cancellation/waiting list.

WHY

Understanding how the carbon process works will save you thousands of hours in failed attempts and allow you to make wise investments in equipment and materials. I’ll also give you all the carbon recipes I use, Photoshop curves, and samples of materials, so you can make prints with minimal effort. You will also walk away with a beautiful print.
